Denmark Approved Revising National Phthalate Requirements for Toys and Childcare Articles

On 26 June 2020, the Ministry of Environment and Food of Denmark has published Executive Order No. 947 of 2020 on phthalates in toys and childcare articles. The Order shall enter into force on 1 July 2020. The preceding Order No. 855 of 2009 shall be repealed.
Same as the previous Order, Executive Order No. 947 of 2020 stipulates the prohibition of phthalate content in toys, childcare articles or their components exceeding 0.05 % by mass.
The new Order does not cover phthalates that are governed by the following regulations:

a. Annex II of Executive Order No. 309 of 2017 on safety requirements for toys

b. Entries 51 and 52 of Annex XVII to EU REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006

The new Order does not cover articles that are intended to come into contact with food.

Note:

“Toys” means products designed or intended solely or partially for playing purpose for children aged 0-36 months.

“Childcare articles” means products intended or usually expected to be put in the mouth of children aged 0-36 months, e.g. pacifiers, bibs, jewellery, bathing equipment.
