A standard is an universal technical requirement existing applied to all aspects of existence established by consensus and approved by all organizations, in the interest of sustaining ecology, development, technological and products quality improvement.
A standard is a set of norms or rules expressed and contained in a reference document. A requirement deals with products and processes. Stakeholders such as governments, manufacturers, consumer's associations, legal personalities, survey organizations, test accreditation agents, etc. all express their opinions and individual interests in defining the standards which attach to the widely recognized files.
Standards are either compulsory or recommendatory. Compulsory standards have legal implications and are enforced by law, or statute, etc, within limits; others are recommended standards, compliance to which is voluntary.
It is difficult to imagine what it would be if the standards didn't exist, de facto trade barriers would arise as each product must be tested according to different standards thereby restricting the movement of goods across various trade borders.
Standards are similar and exist in different levels and fields: National standards, such as Chinn standard GB, Germanic standard DIN; European standard, such as EU standard recognized within a region or continent or specific trade territories; International standard, such as IEC and ISO, are standards recognized by many countries across regional economic territories.
Each standard applies to specific areas of concern, either the environment and product application or purpose. That is the reason why many products should meet more than one standard. The products selling to different areas must meet the standard corresponding to this area.
Because of the relativity in various standards insure, they form the basic of all CPST tests. They also make the results understood in time. Moreover exceptional test standards can be used.
What are standardization and procedure standards?
Standardization actions aim to bring order and establish consistent, effective response or action and results to actual or potential problems within a certain range. It includes the process of establishing, issuing, and carry out the standards. Standardization adds value by improving the applicability or relevance of products, process and services, avoidance of trade barriers, and acceleration of technological cooperation.
Standardization exists in various forms as follows: Basic standards, Product standards, Standardization of Methods, and Health and Safety standards.
