European Commission has proposed Commission Directive to amend Toy Directive 2009/48/EC, which aimed to add the limit values for formaldehyde used in toys intended for use by children under 36 months or in other toys intended to be placed in the mouth.
According to the amendment, the limit value for formaldehyde shall be added to Appendix C to Annex II, which specify the limit values for chemicals used in toys intended for use by children under 36 months or in other toys intended to be placed in the mouth, as following:
Migration limit: 1.5 mg/l in polymeric toy material
Emission limit: 0.1 ml/m3 in resin-bonded wood toy material
Content limit: 30 mg/kg in textile toy material
Content limit: 30 mg/kg in leather toy material
Content limit: 30 mg/kg in paper toy material
Content limit: 10 mg/kg in water-based toy material
