In March 2021, the EU RoHS Evaluation Agency released the final evaluation report of THE RoHS Advisory Project Pack 15, recommending the inclusion of medium-chain chlorinated paraffins (MCCPs) and tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBP-A) in the regulation:
The recommended MCCPs control limit is 0.1wt%, which should be explained when limiting, namely MCCPs contains straight chain or branched chain chlorinated paraffins with carbon chain length c14-C17
The recommended control limit for TBBP-A is 0.1wt%
Medium chain chlorinated paraffins MCCPs(including straight chain or branched chain chlorinated paraffins with carbon chain length C14-C17)
Toxicity: including reproductive toxicity and aquatic toxicity. MCCPs is considered by relevant parties to meet the characteristics of PBT (persistence, bioaccumulation, toxicity) and vPvB (high persistence, high bioaccumulation) in REACH regulation, and was added to SVHC candidate list in July 2021.
Function: Similar to SCCP, it is a plasticizer with flame retardant function. Common in PVC, soft plastics, rubber materials, coatings, adhesives, sealants, especially wire and cable. There are already substitutes for MCCPs used as plasticizers and flame retardants in the market;
