In March 2023, ISO (International Organization for Standardization) published an amendment to the toy standard ISO 8124-3:2020 on migration of certain elements, to be ISO 8124-3:2020+Amd.1:2023. The amendment shall be effective immediately.
Compared to the previous version, ISO 8124-3:2020+Amd.1:2023 includes following major changes:
1.For modelling clay:
Added migration limit for boron (B) (3750 mg/kg);
Changed migration limit for barium (Ba) from 250 mg/kg to 350 mg/kg.
2.For putty:
Added migration limit for boron (B) (3750 mg/kg);
Lowered migration limit for four elements (Ba, Cd, Cr, Hg) to be those for modelling clay.
3.For slime:
Added migration limit for boron (B) (1250 mg/kg);
Lowered migration limits for eight elements (Sb, As, Ba, Cd, Cr, Pb, Hg, Se) to be those for finger paint.
As a result, migration limits for elements are as below:
